This stunning beauty is Gaylene Ayugi, Kenya’s representative in the upcoming 2014 Miss Universe pageant to be held in Miami on January 25th 2015. We are very excited that Gaylene along with a few other African contestants, including Miss Universe 2014 Ghana and Miss Universe Tanzania 2014 (pictured below) have chosen to style their hair in its unaltered natural state. Though it is simply a hair style, it speaks volumes in the way we as African women are choosing to set the standards in how we would like to be viewed in such an ostentatious beauty pageant, steering away from emulating representations of beauty and redefining alternative representations beauty unique to ourselves.
We were very excited to gift Gaylnene with some AJANI Handmade goodies to care for and maintain her low cropped hair do during the competition. We wish you all the best beauty!
